The time has come for a war unlike any us mere mortals have ever seen—a war between gods. Of course we’ve all seen gods goin’ ham on one another in a battle for power, but here in the New World, a.k.a. America, it’s the last frontier of worship and no one’s going quietly into that good night. At least not on American Gods. The Starz adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel (by way of the brilliant mind of Bryan Fuller) has finally gotten itself a premiere date, and it’s sooner than you think!
Rev those proverbial DVR engines, because starting Sunday, April 30th at 9pm, we’re heading on an adventure with Mr. Wednesday and his merry band of misfits.
For those of you going, “but Alicia, I’ve lived under a rock for the past few years and have no idea what you’re talking about!”, 1.) my condolences and 2.) allow me to be of service! American Gods centers on Shadow Moon (The 100‘s Ricky Whittle), an ex-con who—left adrift by the recent death of his wife—becomes bodyguard and travel partner to another conman, Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane). But as is the case with all good mysteries, Mr. Wednesday isn’t at all what he seems, but instead a powerful old deity. As the two embark on a cross-country mission to build an army and reclaim his lost glory, they’ll encounter the New Gods and so much more. Given that it’s from the mind of notoriously cool goth Neil Gaiman, there’s a deviant spooky twist or two, too.

The series stars Whittle, McShane, and a seriously impressive ensemble of Emily Browning, Pablo Schreiber, Crispin Glover, Yetide Badaki, Bruce Langley, Orlando Jones, Jonathan Tucker, and Betty Gilpin. And if you’re lucky enough to be at SXSW this year, the show will have its world premiere there on March 11th.
And it looks like you won’t even have to have Starz to watch it if you live internationally, according to Neil himself—yippie!
