I just can’t seem to not be writing a story about Daredevil recently. With how much everyone loves Marvel’s first Netflix series, it was only a matter of time before it got pulled into one of the internet’s video mash-ups. With that being the case, I’m glad it was a clever one.
A YouTube channel named PoppedCulture has taken Daredevil and built it a new opening sequence based on the mid-80s sitcom Night Court. PoppedCulture only has a few videos to their name at the moment, but the mash-up seems to be a pretty common choice. If they can put out more videos like this or their Law & Order/True Detective video, I think they will do alright.
For our younger readers, Night Court was a sitcom that ran from 1984 to 1992, and was a big hit for NBC during that time. It followed the night shift happenings of a small court in Manhattan. The New York City connection, as well as the connections to courtrooms and lawyers, are obvious. The connection I find more interesting is the clever word play that could tie into Matt Murdock’s second life. Could one not argue that Daredevil holds a Night Court of his own? One where we plays judge and jury? Huh? HUH?…sorry.
What do you think of the video mash-up for the two shows? Do you think a different show would fit better for Daredevil’s opening? Does a mash-up need to have a clever twist to it, or does just capturing a style work better? Let us know in the comments below.
