A seminal muse for artists, Lewis Carroll’s Alice Through the Looking Glass has inspired everything from jewelry to clothing over the centuries. Alice herself has been portrayed through many lenses (including in Tim Burton’s 2010 Alice in Wonderland and the upcoming sequel) and now Hero Complex Gallery has put together an Alice Through the Looking Glass Art Showcase.
Fans can get a first hand look at the artwork inspired by Alice when the show opens on May 20. In collaboration with Disney Fine Art by Collectors Editions, the event features over 50 female artists who have created new original works of art inspired by both the new film and the classic Lewis Carroll books.
We got an exclusive look at pieces for the show by Alex Garant, Belinda Rodriguez, Siames Escalante, Sara Richard, Shannon Bonnatakis, and Heather Theurer. All the works are gorgeous, and all are different interpretations of Aliceâs journey through the looking glass and beyond. Pieces feature familiar Wonderland imagery and characters like the White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter, and the iconic villain The Red Queen.
In addition to the show, Amy Poehlerâs Smart Girls together with Disneyâs Alice Through the Looking Glass launched an Instagram contest where fans could submit their original artwork for a chance to also be displayed at the gallery event. Check out all the submissions by following the hashtag #InspiredByAliceContest.
Take a look at more of the exclusive artwork in the gallery below. Disneyâs Alice Through the Looking Glass Art Showcase will be on display at Hero Complex Gallery in Los Angeles beginning on May 20, which is tonight. So if you want to get first dibs on some limited edition prints, make sure to get there bright and early.
Alice Through the Looking Glass opens on May 27.
