Album Covers, Remixed

Our pal and designer of the incredible Nerdist Podcast Live posters, Dana Lechtenberg, is once again curating a very cool art show that opened in Elkader, Iowa on Sunday, and even if you can’t make it to Schera’s Fine Art in Elkader, Iowa (and, let’s face it, Elkader isn’t likely to be on your itinerary, although it’s not a long drive from Waterloo or Dubuque), you can go online and see what Dana’s showing there and in other Iowa locations in coming months.

For the second time, Dana’s gotten artists to reimagine the covers of their favorite albums in their own style. It’s called the “Thirty Three and a Third (point two) Art Show,” and it’s pretty awesome: 33 artists (and Dana’s daughter Emmalene, 5 years old and the “a third” in the title) have done their own versions of album covers, and you can see the results at cargocollective.com/thirtythreepointthree.

Among the covers remixed and rethought: Dr. Dre’s The Chronic becomes an old school Doritos bag (the munchies, geddit?), The Pixies’ Doolittle retains its haloed-monkey/numbers concept but in a 1950s style, Dana himself ditches the lip-close-up of The Cure’s Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me for a graphically arresting design highlighted by Robert Smith’s hair, and more, all in 12″x12″ form.

If you like what you see, the pieces might just be available for purchase. Contact Dana at [email protected] for more information.

I love both the King Gheedorah and Donuts album covers. I would love to get copies of both prints.

  2. Atrox says:

The King Geedorah cover is great. I’d be interested in buying the King of Limbs one if I had any money, but hopefully another art-appreciator and Radiohead fan will be lucky enough.

Great idea for an art show.

Holy shit! I wish I would have seen this earlier! I would have gone home to tiny little Elkader if I knew something was actually fucking happening there! FUUUUUUUUUU-

  4. That’s our boy! Dana is incredibly talented. Glad to see he’s getting some press!

I still prefer my album cover remixes in kitten form http://thekittencovers.tumblr.com/
