The A&E Network isn’t just about hillbilly duck hunters and reality shows about juvenile delinquents getting harassed on prison tours; it’s also the home to one of the best dramas on television right now, Bates Motel, which has just been renewed for a third season by the network. In a press release issued today, network VPÂ David McKillop said, “The incredible writing team and talented Bates Motel cast has made this series one of the most compelling original dramas on television; The brilliant twists and turns of the past two seasons keep its loyal fan base coming back for more. We are so proud of the show.”
Essentially a prequel to  Psycho (the classic Alfred Hitchcock movie more than the original book by Robert Bloch), Bates Motel follows Norma Bates and her sons, future serial killer Norman (Freddie Highmore) and his half brother Dylan (Max Thieriot), as they try to make a life for themselves in the Pacific Northwest town of White Pine Bay, a town filled with secrets and conspiracies. Bates Motel has been A&E’s highest rated drama among viewers 18-49 in the network’s history, and actress Vera Farmiga has been nominated for an Emmy for her brilliant performance as family matriarch Norma Bates. Bates Motel is halfway through airing its second season right now, and filming for the ten episodes of season three is scheduled to begin this fall for an early 2015 airing.
Farmiga and Hightower have always had great scenes together and are the main reason why this show works so well. But now that Norman is exhibiting passive aggressive behavior toward Norma, their scenes have gone to a whole other level and it’s f*cking electric. The boiling point is getting ever so higher and makes watching each episode a joy to experience because we really don’t know what’s coming next. There is always a twist that takes it down another road with the characters, which of course is just delaying the inevitable. Even Dylan’s story is getting more interesting, especially with him being tasked to take out Zane Carpenter which will eventually put Dylan at the top of the food chain, bypassing Jodi Wilson one day. Even Sheriff Alex Romero is finally getting in on the act with a solid arc that is going to come to head. Factor into the mix a Deputy that is obviously going to become a loose end about withholding evidence about Norman. Brilliant writing all around. Like I said, this is great stuff we are getting right now. Love it.
OMG! This is the best show on television right now alongside BlackList!!! Soooo glad it is being renewed another season!!!! Keep up the great work…give the writers a raise!!! Today!!!
