Adam Savage’s Comic Book HELLBOY Costume Wasn’t Very Incognito

If you’re a celebrity, especially a nerd hero, that wants to traverse a con in anonymity, it’s probably best not to reveal one of your big costume pieces online a week before going. That’s what Mythbusters Adam Savage found out when he attended the first ever Silicon Valley Comic-Con in San Jose recently, wielding the replica Hellboy sword he had just made and shared with the whole world.

In this video from Tested, Savage showed off his newest secret costume, one based on Mike Mignola‘s comic book version of the character. Savage does this at most cons (“Adam Incognito”), but this was his second Hellboy costume. At his first Comic-Con eight years ago he went as the movie Hellboy, though this iteration did share something special with the cinematic version: an authentic Hellboy leather duster and tail from the film.

Walking around with boots that had two inch lifts to prevent the long duster from hitting the floor, Savage said he was recognized in about ten seconds because he was carrying the sword he had just made in a one-day-build, the video of which he posted online one week before hitting the floor of the SVCC.

How could anyone be sure it was him and not some other Hellboy cosplayer? Because Savage didn’t just make a sword, he made his sword with a burnt demon still impaled on it. You can watch the making of that piece here:

As for the costume, that helmet was apparently hot as hell, but boy was it all worth it just to see Hellboy patiently standing in an elevator.

Where does this rank among your favorite “Adam Incognito” costumes? Tell us in the comments below.
