Later this month, director Ridley Scott is once again going to revisit the Aliens universe in Alien: Covenant; which is also the follow up to Prometheus. Former Mythbusters host Adam Savage has been a fan of the Alien franchise for decades, which is probably why he seemed so incredibly excited while visiting the set of Alien: Covenant in Sydney, Australia.
Tested has posted a video about Savage’s time on the Alien: Covenant set; which primarily focuses on the massive recreation of the Engineers’ Dreadnought ship. As you can see, this wasn’t simply a greenscreen effect. And as Savage noted, the entire thing had to be completely rebuilt after Prometheus. At the time of Savage’s visit, the production team only had two more days to get the set ready for filming.
One of the most jaw-dropping visuals in this video is the Space Jockey’s chair; which shows off an amazing sense of scale. It was originally glimpsed in Alien before Scott used it again in Prometheus. Scott even makes a cameo appearance in this video to personally inspect the set ahead of the shoot, and the workers definitely appeared to up their game in the hours before his visit.
Savage also explained that the techniques used to create this impressive alien environment have actually been around for over a hundred years. It’s only the material that has changed in that time span. But the results are truly stunning, and it’s definitely gotten us excited to see what Alien: Covenant has in store for us when it opens on Friday, May 19.
