When I was little, my dad would always watch those home-improvement shows on PBS. This Old House and New Yankee Workshop were always part of his Saturday afternoons. Occasionally, I would sit for a few minutes and watch along with him before I got bored and went back to my normal kid things. I always asked myself “Why would he watch that? It’s just guys building stuff.” Well, after watching Adam Savage‘s One Day Builds, I can honestly say to my dad (who I know reads these) that I get it now.
In this latest episode (which clocks in at around 70 minutes, so get yourself a soda), Adam teams up with Battlestar Galactica alumnus Aaron Douglas to recreate some smaller versions of BSG characters. Adam worked on a custom paint job of a Chief Tyrol action figure provided by Aaron. To be honest, Adam’s work looked more like the real thing than the official action figure. Aaron worked on model kits for the Cylon Raider and a Cylon Centurion. With some help from Adam on the paint jobs, all three items looked fantastic.
I know that if this is the type of stuff they were building when my dad was watching his old PBS shows, I would have probably been more inclined to watch along with him.
