Acoustic Version of ‘Yub Nub’ From RETURN OF THE JEDI Is The Special Edition We Deserve

It’s almost impossible to describe the feeling that comes from a freedom won only after an epic battle of good versus evil, a victory that was attained through unimaginable bravery and painful sacrifice. The words that capture both the euphoria and relief of such a triumph do exist though, as though sent from the angels above.

Yub nub, eee chop yub nub;
Ah toe meet toe peechee keene,
G’noop dock fling oh ah.

Angels above…ewoks in trees. Pretty much the same thing really.

Well, the song of joy that rang out on the forest moon of Endor following the death of the Emperor and the destruction of the second Death Star may have been omitted from the Star Wars Special Editions, but it can never be omitted from our hearts, which is why this acoustic version from Chris Nandor is something not even George Lucas can take from us.

Not only does this sound really good (good luck getting it out of your head), but Nandor handles the totally absurd lyrics perfectly. (Though the translated lyrics do make complete sense, and he was kind enough to include them in the video.)

If you are young enough you might not even be familiar with “Yub Nub,” because the ending of Return of the Jedi was changed with the Special Editions. Here’s the new version, with the single worst moment in the history of humanity–young ghost Anakin.

Now here is the original, with the full “Yub Nub” and old ghost Anakin.

Yeah, that’s the stuff, right there. Like I always say.

Allay loo ta nuv,
Allay loo ta nuv,
Allay loo ta nuv,
Allay loo ta nuv.
