ABC Passes on AGENTS OF SHIELD Spin-off, MARVEL’S MOST WANTED

There’s no way around it. This has been a really bad day for fans of Marvel’s TV shows on ABC. First, the network canceled Agent Carter after two, all-too-brief seasons. And now, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off, Marvel’s Most Wanted is dead in the water!

TVLine is reporting that ABC has passed on Marvel’s Most Wanted, even though the project had widely been seen as a lock as recently as a few weeks ago. The proposed series would have focused on Adrianne Palicki’s Bobbi Morse (a.k.a. Mockingbird) and Nick Blood’s Lance Hunter as they teamed up with  Dominic Fortune (Delroy Lindo) to determine who put a price on their heads. Mockingbird and Hunter were written out of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. earlier this season when they were effectively burned as spies and forced to resign from the S.H.I.E.L.D. team.

So, what’s next for this fan favorite duo? It’s not clear if Marvel TV intends to shop Marvel’s Most Wanted around to another network. Freeform and Netflix would be the most likely alternate homes for the series, but both outlets already have Marvel series of their own.

If Marvel’s Most Wanted truly has no future as a series, then the smart play would be to reintegrate Palicki and Blood back into the cast of  Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. next season. Their characters were widely credited for that show’s improvement last season and they would probably be welcomed back with open arms by the fans. But the big question now is whether Palicki and Blood are still under contract with Marvel TV. We hope so, because we love their characters!
