In the near future, a hostile alien race called the Formics have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. OSC is definitely entitled to his own opinions about life, as well as ways to eliminate what he describes as an “unnecessary evil.” However, what astounds me is that he was able to write a wonderful novel with transcendent reflections on humanity, yet, a few years later, he caves into just what he established as unjust in his novel.
Looks great but in my view hunger game is superbb

I’m getting sick of people saying they will boycott the movie because of OSC opinions,let me inform all those ignorant fools about him if you didn’t know OSC is a devout Mormon and his views are probably based on that so if you want to discriminate against a person because of his religion you might as well good all in with your bigotry. anyway the trailer looks good I hope they don’t mess up one of the best books of all time just like high school English teachers use Shakespeare now,in 500 years they will be assigning kids to read OSC,unless the buggers get us first. Counting down till November 1 I’ll probably go see it 4or5 times the first weekend just to annoy those liberal bigots then by a dozen copies of the DVD and blue ray.
I read “Ender’s Game” long, long ago, and read it to my kid as a continuing bedtime story. I have anticipated/dreaded this movie for 20 years.
1. They did get the battle room right (according to my imagination) BUT
2. They gave away the entire surprise ending in the trailer.
Hm. I hope the movie is better than the trailer.
And Orson Scott Card is a genius writer (the master of compound sentences and semi-colons)…regardless of his “opinions” (which we all have -like certain orifices in our nether regions).
And opinions that while I don’t personally agree with, have nothing to do with a good story.
And if we want to talk about issues and “popular” writers, lets be fair here:
E.L. James – Author of the Fifty Shades of Grey…a writer more concerned with dollar signs than actually writing good literature.
Lauren Myracle – author of teen-girl “Text Message” series where she writes about “Hate-Crimes” and if you think TEXT messages are literature, we need to redefine the word literary immediately.
James Frey – author of A Million Little Pieces who admitted to fabricating events in his memoir. Selling Lies to people packed as a truthful biography…nice role model.

WOW! Looks awesome…I have loved this book since I was in high school…they have done a great job bringing Orson Scott Card’s epic story to the screen. The Battle Room alone will make the film (for uber fans).

Harrison Ford has all the delivery and pathos of a delivery clerk reading a shipping manifiest. Why do they continue to think somebody who got lucky with an early career action character is somehow now a superb character actor ideally suited for a sci-fi role?
As far as the look, and the kids in the battle school, it’s good to see the surburban “momma bear” ideal of what “good kids” look like still holds sway in Hollywood casting circles. More Cheerios anyone?

Oh, no i just reread the book recently and this is what i gathered: The first Formics attacked Earth, and tried to inhabit it (the scourge of China), and battle school was on a space station, but later Ender is transferred to a command station on an asteroid. Card has always talked about how involved he’s been with the movie process, from writing the script to producing the thing, but it’s been about 10 years in the making, and all that time being asked to make compromises makes you want to make compromises just to make the studio happy. Last i heard, Card was going to involve Bean a bunch in the movie, showing both their stories, and making it a “buddy film” (which i would actually be totally ok with, cause Bean is the tits) but the trailer makes it look like a teen romance, which is…. definitely not Ender’s Game.
Even if you put aside OSC politics and judge Ender’s Game on its own merits, it’s still an apologia for Hitler.
Looks like it’s aimed towards tweens. I’d feel wrong watching it as such.
Sorry, but I can only enjoy media written by people who agree with my politics. Because I am tolerant and open -minded and they are not. Which is why I avoid Hemingway, Shakespeare, Shaw, etc.

Wow… Whoever put this trailer together really wants to hammer home that everyone in this movie has some sort of Academy Award connection
For the people saying they won’t support the movie because OSC is a bigot, I’m just curious if you knew about that before reading the book or after? Would you have still read the book if you had known? Was it still one of the most amazing stories you had ever read? I get your reasons, really I do. I just try to judge a work based on its content rather than by the author’s beliefs.
That being said, I hope that this is one of those instances where they took all of the explosions and packed them into one trailer, and that it isn’t really indicative of the rest of the actual film.
This looks it’s over-flowing with CGI-driven action shaky-cam schlock… I was hoping for something different for such an acclaimed science fiction novel. Also, while Orson Scott Card is a outspoken bigot and has some incredibly offensive views, pointing them out will probably only make this movie more popular with people who embrace those views.
Sure, this will be a movie which is produced so that a lot of money will be made. I will get to see it for $9 and enjoy it with a room full of fans. I can’t wait!
This takes a lot out of it for me. I was really hoping for a drama more so than a CGI Michael Bay-esque Action flick…
Are we really going to destroy every great novel by pandering to the attention deficits who can’t sit still for 10 seconds unless they are being attacked with fast cut scenes and huge explosions.
This book is an amazing piece of literature looking into the psychological affects of war and fear. If all they are going to do is make a crappy action flick then I’m really disappointed.
I’ll reserve final judgement once I see it (or read a few reviews from trusted source) Thankfully I have enough Scene points to see every movie I want to in theaters for free for the rest of the year. (Thank you ScotiaBank!)
As desperate as I am to watch this movie (was one of my favorite scifi stories), I can’t bring myself to do it. OSC is not simply a bigot, but is an active member of various organizations and movements to spread his hate. I may have been able to ignore it if was simply his views (like doing business with a redneck who doesn’t like black people) vs a full-fledged member of the KKK. I think this will be the breakpoint for nerds, as many of us are marginalized (in the past or still) and for me, watching this movie is tacit approval of OSC’s actions and a spit in the face of every struggle I had in school.
Ender’s Game Nov 1 and Hardwick @ The Carolina Theater Nov 8. It’s gonna be a good month!

Looks great but i think its a misstep to play up the alien part. Most of the book was about ender and battle school and his fight against the people who were running it. That would be a more interesting movie to me.
I’m also curious to see how much of the book’s ending remains unknown to people.
This feels like it takes all the surprise out of the reveal…
