A Multiplayer FRIDAY THE 13TH Game is in Development

You read the headline and I know what some of you are thinking:

Feel free to let out a shriek of terror for the game that was Friday the 13th, but let’s clarify one thing right away– this is not a reboot of the 1989 NES title. Instead, what we have here is an “asymmetrical, co-operative and competitive multiplayer predator/prey horror experience” being made by a unnamed studio, according to EGM. This means you can expect a game with an Evolve-like “team of humans versus human-controlled boss” element, all set in the Friday the 13th universe.

Perhaps the Michael Meyers’ cameo in Call of Duty: Ghost got someone’s creative juices flowing. A game where players run and fight to survive being mercilessly dispatched by a preying Jason Voorhees could make for some horrifying and tense gaming moments. Friday the 13th creator Sean S. Cunningham had a few words about the upcoming project for EGM:

“We have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value, while delivering the kinds of thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect,” says Cunningham. “The game’s October launch will coincide with a new film and television series. The studio in charge of the game will be announced ‘in the coming weeks.”

Sounds like we may have something else to look forward to come this holiday season. Could asymmetrical shooters be a growing trend in gaming moving forward? Have you been jonesing to hop into the shoes of Jason the killer in a video game? Throw your thoughts into the comments below?
