Get ready to be jealous Doctor Who fans who don’t live in the UK: According to the wonderful nonprofit Little Free Libraries, a TARDIS has been spotted on Brighton Beach!
The announcement says that the Little TARDIS Library is about to take a tour of the United Kingdom to bring classic books to children everywhere. Included inside the cavernous space (because this library is very much bigger on the inside thank you very much) will be Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Secret Garden, Winnie the Pooh, The Phantom Tollbooth, The Hobbit, Treasure Island, Peter Pan, Harry Potter (all of them!), The Chronicles of Narnia, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Black Beauty, To Kill a Mockingbird, Charlotte’s Web, and many, many individual titles. Incredibly influential writers will also be represented with collections from Oscar Wilde, Charles Dickens, and of course, Shakespeare.
This particular TARDIS is built especially for young readers with an appropriately sized smaller-on-the-outside meant to engage them. It stands 1.2 meters high and only 600 mm wide. That’s almost 4 feet tall and 2 feet wide for all of us Americans.
Given the very impressive list of classic literature that will crowd the shelves of what I can only imagine is the most amazing library in the universe, this particular Doctor Who fan hopes that it inspires young readers and doesn’t hold any nasty Vashta Nerada in its shadows.
If you’re in the UK, and you’re interested in the Little TARDIS Library visiting your school, you can email [email protected] for information on making that kind of awesomeness happen. In the mean time, please arm yourself with your nearest book.
