A Classic Joan Osborne Hit, as Sung by Animals From Viral Videos

Back in April, we shared with you a cover version of the Pixies‘ “Where Is My Mind?” as sung by various animals. We suggested at that time that the YouTubers responsible, Insane Cherry, should cover Ylvis‘ “What Does the Fox Say?” They were much less obvious in their pick than that, but thematically, maybe we should have seen it coming. Last time, they did a song that questioned sanity. This time, they’re questioning God. Yes, it’s Joan Osborne’s “One of Us,” a song I haven’t even thought about since hearing the R&B cover version in Tyler Perry‘s Diary of a Mad Black Woman.

Insane Cherry don’t just edit together a bunch of videos and autotune the result, though–there is a real sense of comedic timing to this. At first, as the opening chords play out and some of the pets just lightly mirror the tune, you settle into a groove as a listener. Then, right when you expect Joan Osborne’s melodic voice to kick in, the animals loudly start braying in your ear. If you can keep a straight face once that happens, you’re made of sterner stuff than I.

As a bonus, here’s another recent one they did: Evanescence’s quintessential early aughts nu-metal hit, “Bring Me to Life.”

That woke me up inside, for sure. The split-screen duet even arguably saved me from the nothing I’d become, never having known the joys of cats imitating Amy Lee. The Awesomer, which led me to the Osborne cover, lived up to its name today.

Do you need to see more of these right meow? Or is it all a big mehhhh? Cluck your way to our comments below and howl your feelings at us.
