A Bunch of Classic PC Games Just Hit Steam

Good thing you’re not doing anything important today. If you are, cancel it, or resign yourself to staring longingly at the calendar, waiting an excruciating three days until the Labor Day weekend frees you up to binge on Quest for Glory and Police Quest. Watch out for Phantasmagoria, though. It gets dark.

All these games and more are now available on Steam, which continues its appreciation for retro gaming (and for sending us hunting for the weathered game guides in our attics) with this trip into Spielburg Valley and beyond. The full list also includes Gabriel Knight 13, Arcanum, and Caesar 3 and 4, but, as Kotaku points out, several of the titles have already been available on GoG.

It’s an excellent mix of Sierra titles, though. You can introduce your young geeks to the swashbuckling of Quest for Glory, dig into the gruesome, controversial-for-its-time Phantasmagoria after they’ve gone to bed, and then greet the morning by remembering that Mark Hamill and Tim Curry were in Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father for some reason.

This collection is a treasure trove for ’90s kids who now carry something in their pocket far more powerful than whatever 486 they were loading seven CDs into just to get stuck in that damned Quest for Glory maze.

Fortunately, as you emerge from your gaming haze to go back to work in the morning, the addition of these classic PC games to Steam should remind you that 7th Guest and the entire run of King’s Quest are already on it. How many sick days do you have again?
