After a summer of insanity following the departure of original director Edgar Wright and a revolving door of rumors, things seem to be finally smoothing out for Marvel’s much anticipated adaptation of Ant-Man. Production officially commenced this week, and with it came our first looks at the tiny Avenger’s big screen debut. Of course, since the film is shooting many exterior scenes at the moment, Marvel wanted to make sure they were the first ones to bring you any sort of initial look at the characters as they appear in the film, thus the studio has released the first official image of Rudd as Lang in the film via USA Today:
In the new film, audiences will be taken on a heist film-like journey that will see Lang team up with Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), the original creator of the Ant-Man technology, to retrieve sensitive tech back from Darren Cross, a former protégé of Pym’s turned villain.
Evangeline Lilly also took to Instagram to show off her new ‘do as Hope Van Dyne, which reminded us of a certain winged Avenger we haven’t seen on screen just yet…
Additionally, a plethora of pictures and a few videos from the set leaked and gave us another glimpse of the filmmaking process.
We can’t deny that things didn’t have their ups and downs all summer long, but it appears now that filming has commenced, Ant-Man is back on track to deliver in its July 2015 release date. After Guardians of the Galaxy proved that everyone will show up to just about anything with the Marvel name attached to it, Ant-Man’s chances of success went way up. It’s fun to take shots at a production from the outside, but the truth is, we want this movie to be good because we want to see more Ant-Man on screen, especially in some Avengers 3 action *wink wink*.

My thoughts as well. I was not going to see it until people I knew and respected gave it great reviews.
No…people CONTINTUED to show up having heard that after all was said and done it was a great movie. The worry was that because it wasn’t a well known Marvel property that there wouldn’t be enough people going to it to TELL others that it was a good movie. Despite the millions that go into advertising, word of mouth/critic reviews are still the biggest influence in many people going to a movie.
I’m not sure GOTG proves people will show up to anything Marvel. They executed a brilliant marketing campaign with joyous trailers that drew skeptical people like myself—a lifetime comic reader and nerd—into the theater. I was actively opposed to the film after the first announcement figuring it was the fall of Marvel films and was so happy to be proved wrong. It’s not the property, it’s the execution. People too quickly forget that Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America were all C-list personalities prior to the films and everyone envied Sony’s ownership of the X-Men.
