’90s Nostalgia Alert with This Unreal Engine 4 Version of SPYRO THE DRAGON

There’s nothing better than feeling the childhood (or teenage, or adult) feels for the original Playstation. So, here’s one fan’s tribute to PS1’s darling franchise, Spyro the Dragon, recreated using Unreal Engine 4.

Keep your horns, though! This isn’t anywhere near 100% complete yet. TheOmegaNerd has so far recreated the first calming level, Artisans’ Homeland, from Sony’s 1998 classic platform title. The portal to Stone Hill can be seen right next to little Spyro, tempting us with the thought of more levels constructed with this amount of sharp detail! We’re especially interested in seeing some of those fluffy sheep bouncing around later on. Another screencap includes the very precise looking dragon head which opens to reveal the Toasty Boss realm. Also, the iconic floating gems are even included! Aside from the visual facelift, we hope the original score and sounds are intact in this Unreal recreation. For some fans, this might help reclaim Spyro from the Skylander crew and back into the environment and plucky atmosphere he was meant for.

We know nothing could ever touch our hearts as mush as the bright cartoonish PS1 original Spyro did, but we appreciate creativity from fans like TheOmegaNerd. Take a peak at the gallery of screencaps below, and let us know which level from the original Spyro the Dragon you look forward to seeing recreated in Unreal!
