8-Bits Turn Into Masterpieces with This Awesome Gallery

As an 8-year-old, Atari was where it was at. When I plugged in my Atari 7800 (a system, I may add, which was backwards compatible FROM THE START), I had to use my imagination to create 3D images out of those little dots on the screen, none of this 1080p and 60fps nonsense.

When I wasn’t playing Atari, and wanted something a little less “plugged-in,” my go-to toy was the Etch-a-Sketch. Was I good at it? Not at all. Could I write my name and that’s it? Yep. Did I gain GREAT upper arm strength at such a young age erasing my name? Most definitely.

Artist Adam Lister used his imagination too, but he decided to take his imagination to another level. In the gallery below, he has created a series of water-color paintings based on the “8-bit” style most of us grew up with. It’s as almost as if he made these on an Etch-a-Sketch and colored over them.  He has entire series of Star Wars characters, TV shows and movies, and superheroes. He also has an entire series dedicated to recreating some paintings from the greats in art history.

My favorites are Boba Fett, Walter White, and Captain America. When you get a closer look at the pictures, it’s as if Adam was playing a minigame of Tetris while painting.

You can check out more of Adam’s work and purchase his prints on his website here.

So what do you think? Are you still reading this, or are you already blowing your Comic-Con money a few days early? What awesome drawing did YOU try on an Etch-a-Sketch that ended up looking like two squares joined together? Let me know on Twitter or in the comments below.
