3D Candy Printing Is a Reality

If you think we’ve reached the peak in how we consume candy, think again. Opening a bag of jelly beans, unboxing chocolate…those are pedestrian ways of eating. This is the future and our future selves deserve the best, and that time is now with the invention of a 3D gummy printer.

The invention of 3D printing has brought about life changing creations, and I’m not just talking about 3D printed cat armor. Dylan’s Candy Bar in New York City, together with Katjes Magic Candy Factory, has created the country’s first custom 3D gummy candy printer.

The machine has over 100 designs to choose from and has the ability to write names, words and pictures. Gluten-free and dairy-free, the gummies are available in customizable colors and flavors and are made with natural fruit and vegetable extracts instead of gelatin. You can even finish off your creation by adding edible glitter, sour, and fizzy dust.

Watching the machine create the custom candy is magical. According to the New York Post, the plug and play technology involved a system called Fused Deposition Modeling. The process starts by heating the ingredients, that are applied via nozzle, creating shapes through an algorithm using 35,000 lines of code.

For now the magical machine is available at Dylan’s Third Avenue store in New York, but they promise it will be rolled out to their Chicago, Los Angeles (yay!) and Miami stores soon.

The customizable treats take only 5 minutes to create and cost $20 each.
