Are you prepared for a Chief-filled future? 343 Industries already has the next 10 years planned out for the Halo franchise.
According to Gamesradar, 343 Industries already knows what will be happening in the franchise 10 years down the line. More astonishingly, the studio is already working on Halo 6, despite the fact that Halo 5 has yet to make its debut. The report states that franchise development director Frank O’Connor and studio head Bonnie Ross spoke on the subject in an upcoming Golden Joystick dedicated to the next Master Chief adventure.
“We do kind of know what’s going to happen in the next game pretty well at this point,” says O’Conner “We’re doing serious real planning and even some writing on the next game already, and that’s a luxury – we’ve never been in that position before.”
He continues, “So we both know at a very high level what’s going to happen in, say, ten years from now. But at that very granular level knowing what’s going to happen in the next game and that’s just been a great feeling for me.”
Ross chimes in on the situation, “You can look at the ending of Halo 4 and where Master Chief is, and obviously we had to know where we were going to take Halo 5 and Halo 6 with that,” she says. “You have an epic sci-fi universe and we have multiple ways that we can go with this story, but all the pieces are laying there. The canvas is there for us to paint”.
O’Conner further elaborates on their plans, and regardless of having a plan laid out, the team is making sure to have some flexibility in their plans while still knowing the basics of the future. “If you start making those stepping stones too rigid, then you’re not being realistic about the game development process. That process could change the story but we know what’s going to happen in the next game, and we kind of know what’s going to happen to the Master Chief ultimately.”
There you have it, folks. Prepare your body for a whole lot of Master Chief.
