101 Facts About THE HUNGER GAMES

Happy Hunger Games, everyone! On Friday, the final movie in The Hunger Games saga will arrive in theaters and finish the film series that made Jennifer Lawrence into a superstar.

Back in 2012’s The Hunger Games, Lawrence stepped into the role of Katniss Everdeen, a young woman from District 12 who volunteered as a tribute to save the life of her sister. Over the course of the first three movies, Katniss transforms from a survivor into a symbol of the rebellion against the regime of President Snow (Donald Sutherland). And like any good YA story, The Hunger Games film series also deals with a complicated love triangle between Katniss, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), and Gale (Liam Hemsworth).

As part of the buildup towards The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, a new YouTube video examines 101 facts about The Hunger Games. Some of the facts are well known, including the decision to split Mockingjay into two movies, how Donald Sutherland became involved with the franchise, and even a few jokes revolving around the narrator’s infatuation with Lawrence.

But the lesser known facts are quite interesting, including background info on Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins, her surprising inspiration for the books, her devotion to the three-act structure, her father’s background as a soldier, and the origins of a few names of major characters from the books.

Other notable facts include the way that Hutcherson’s sickly appearance in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 was created and the way that Veronica Mars star Kristen Bell lobbied for a part in the franchise. There was even a Hunger Games-themed summer camp for children, which sounds like a hilariously bad idea.
