OVERWATCH Finally Reveals Doomfist

Get ready to punch your way to the payload, Overwatch fans, because the announcement we’ve all been waiting for has happened—DOOMFIST IS FINALLY HERE! Although, he’s not exactly what we expected.

Fans of Overwatch have been hyped for Doomfist from the very first moment they caught sight of him on the Hollywood map in movie posters. They even picked out Brooklyn Nine Nine star, Terry Crews, as the top actor they wanted to see voice him in the game. Crews has actually been moving into the gaming community more and more since helping his son build a PC so they could spend more time together. Surprisingly, he was excited for the challenge, and the gaming community embraced his willingness to be involved even more. Soon he put out an online audition video of himself reading possible Doomfist lines and the internet exploded. The hype levels were through the roof and they rose even further when he was caught visiting the Blizzard Entertainment campus. It seemed like dreams were coming true.

But today’s character release brings a bit of sad news—Terry Crews does not voice Doomfist.

However, as you can see in the reveal trailer above, even without Terry Crews, Doomfist is still pretty awesome. Even more exciting is Blizzard’s move to a 2-D animated featurette instead of the Pixar-esque animated shorts they have been known for. If this is the new format for year 2, I have to say, this looks incredible and now I want an Overwatch cartoon show. Thanks Blizzard.

Doomfist’s design is also different from what we expected given his posters in Hollywood. His look is now a mixture of Nigerian warrior and future tech—his most prominent feature being that badass giant gauntlet we’ve seen so many times before already.

Doomfist comes with a very unique set of moves that should shake things up in the current, Dive-heavy meta. He is an all-out offensive hero who focuses on very close range combat. He does have some short range bullet-like projectiles that shoot from his fist, but the majority of his move-set requires you to get up close and personal. With uppercuts and punches that hit like a Reinhardt charge, Doomfist is sure to excite the players who are looking for a change of pace.

Not long after Doomfist was announced, Jeff Kaplan and the Overwatch team released a developer update video detailing the character’s background and his moves. You can watch it here:

The good news, besides having a new and amazing looking character to play, is that Terry Crews is most likely voicing a different character in the future. Doomfist has been planned for quite some time and fans had speculated that Crews might not be what they had in mind for the role upon inception. Lucky for us, the world needs more heroes and Crews is more than ready for the job.
